Switch your personal email to google mail (you still get mail @ your_domain and can send from @ your_domain) its new GOOGLE APPS

Google Apps for Your Domain lets you offer private-labeled email, IM and calendar accounts to all of your users, so they can share ideas and work more effectively. These services are all unified by the start page, a new addition to this service, a unique, dynamic page where your users can preview their inboxes and calendars, browse content and links that you choose, search the web, and further customize the page to their liking. You can also design and publish web pages for your domain. It's all free and everything is hosted by Google. No hardware or software required.

What does this mean?

In layman terms, google has come up with this wonderful mail server, where you can setup mail to your personal domain, to be sent to google servers directly by changing the MX records.

How do I setup?

Just goto http://google.com/a/ and you can set it up in 2 mins.

How do I access my mail?

Once the setup is over, you have to change the MX records with your hosting company (no this is not forwarding, you will no more receive mail on to your server but they will directly be collected on google server)

Create the user accounts, if there are more than 1 user you want to create at once, you can use Advanced tools. So, which ever mail you send to say admin@your_domain.com will be sent to google servers.

To check your email.. Log in to your Google Apps mail account (http://mail.google.com/a/your_domain.com).

Why would I want to switch to google apps?

1. Google has hundreds of users working on making their gmail better.
2. They have the best spam buster I have seen. So, no more spam in your inbox.
3. Every email account you create gets a 2GB of space! does your hosting company provide 2GB for your email account for free?
4. The gmail interface is the best webmail interface, fast, excellent labeling system, you dont have to delete the mail any more.
5. You can start using gtalk with your personal email address, use google calender with your personal email address and many more features coming..

I am sure it is. Btw, if you are having any problem with your hosting company (I had, changing the MX records with godaddy) do let me know... Now I know how to solve all these issues.
